My son Ian is unafraid of trying new things. (I know, that's not always a good thing!) Seriously, I do worry every time he walks out the door. I never know when trip to the ER to set a broken bone might occur, and fortunately, (knock on wood) it hasn't. Some days, I think there isn't enough bubble wrap in the world to keep my boy nice and safe.
So, you can imagine my reaction when hubby bought Ian his first skateboard when Ian was only five years old. I freaked! youboughtmybabyacrazyaccidentwaitingtohappenboardsaywhat!?!? (Truly, I watch way too much Hannah Montana.)
Ian was so excited when he saw that board, and Tony Hawk immediately became his hero. Hubby showed Ian skateboarding videos on YouTube, and before you know it, Ian was ready to take to the street.
Me, I went to the store and spent a small fortune on a helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, and padded underwear. (Yes, looking back, the underwear puzzles me too. Clearly, I was distressed.)
It wasn't long before Ian was mastering tricks on that skateboard. Now, he loves going to the skate park. I, on the other hand, do not like that he likes it, but as long as he is keeping as safe as possible, I support it.
Last year, Ian heard about the Shred Sled and told me he had to have one. Fortunately, thanks to Team Mom and Shred Sled, his wish came true!

When the Shed Sled arrived, Ian couldn't wait to try it out. Honestly, he didn't take to it immediately. He played around a bit, and came back inside and asked for help. (For a minute I thought he meant he wanted ME to try it. Yeah, right!)We went to the Shred Sled website and watched some of the videos on the How To Shred page, and Ian seemed to understand what he needed to do to get the Shred Sled moving.
It wasn't long before he was yelling for me to check him out. He was moving alright, and much to my dismay, was attempting tricks too.
Ian loves the Shred Sled. He tells me that once he got the hang of it, it is much more fun to ride than a traditional skateboard. He doesn't need to use one foot to push off to get the board moving like he does with his skateboard. Once he is on the Shred Sled, he uses his lower body and arms to get it going and to keep it moving. He loves how easy it is to maneuver while on the board. I love how simple it is to stop the Shred Sled. Unlike traditional skateboards, the rider where the board's brake is located to stop the sled.
Now, My oldest son has decided to use the sled too. He has yet to try it, but I have no doubt he'll take to it just as quickly as his brother. (Who know, maybe one day when the boys aren't home to laugh at me, I will try it too. It DOES look like a lot of fun!)
