How Long Do Your Home’s Systems and Appliances Last?

Wouldn’t it be nice to buy something for your home like an oven, washer or furnace and know that you never had to spend the money to buy one again? Unfortunately, this is not the case. These items actually have life spans.  With continued use, parts wear down, and the items stop functioning as they should. Once this happens, you end up needing to shell out money for a new appliance.

After many years of use, your air conditioner, oven, furnace, dishwasher, refrigerator, washing machine, etc. will meet the end of its lifespan. Their parts will fail from normal wear and tear. It’s normal, but it’s also nice to know how long each appliance or system in your home is expected to last. If you know this, you can budget for a replacement appliance, or better yet, make sure you have a home warranty covering these items prior to needing to replace them.

Check out this nifty infographic to see when common house systems like your heating, cooling, plumbing or electrical wear out, or how long your appliances like your oven, dishwasher, washer and dryer have before they need to be replaced. (This is just an average. Some appliances or systems last less or longer than the shown time frames.) The infographic also includes the average cost to replace each item. However, if you do have a home warranty protecting your home, and these systems or appliances fail from normal wear and tear, you’ll only have to pay a fraction of the cost to repair or replace them.
