Epson Stylus NX400 All-In-One Review & Giveaway

There is a great deal of creativity in my family. Not a day goes by when someone isn’t creating something.

Ian is my builder. He can honestly make the most amazing things out of scraps of paper, cardboard from boxes, and other items that one wouldn’t typically consider using. After he designs something, he uses the computer to write a little story about what he made.

Jacob is my thinker. He is often found curled up on his floor, writing- lyrics, stories, scripts on his computer. My husband is a writer as well. He’s also a musician, so he writes a great deal of his own music. I, too, am a writer.

Another creative thread we have in common is that we are all photographers and scrapbookers. It started with a simple camera and some great paper supplies, and after seeing me create something out of all of it, the rest of the family was hooked!

I think it’s safe to say that we all enjoy sharing our projects with other family members and friends. So, there is a whole lot of scanning and printing going on here- daily.

For quite some time, I realized that our family printer was losing its golden touch. Picture quality wasn’t fantastic, the printer was slow, and we were constantly low on ink. Additionally, the separate scanner we had was ancient, slow, loud and not completely reliable.

So, when I was approached by Epson to review the Stylus NX400 All-In-One, the whole family was excited! Finally! One printer that could do everything we needed!

The Stylus NX400 All-In-One far exceeded all of my expectations! First, and foremost, it is made by a brand I trust, Epson. Second, the quality of the products it produces from scanning, copying and printing is far superior to any I have yet to try. Finally, the fact that the inks are separate cartridges will save our family a great deal of money. We realized we hit the jackpot with this printer after using if for a couple of weeks.

The Epson Stylus NX400 All-In-One uses DURABrite Ultra ink. This fact alone made this printer a fast favorite for the photographer in me. With this pigment ink, our projects dried instantly and did not smear or smudge. After printing a photo, I ran my finger across it to see what would happen and had a serious “WOW” moment when the photo did not smear. In fact, Ian printed a photo of our friend Esther who recently passed away, and he taped it to his bedroom window. Even with all of the cold and moisture we’ve experienced here in PA, that photo is still as perfect now as it was the day he printed it.

We tested the inks on different types of paper- plain, presentation, and photo- satin, glossy. We also tested different brands of paper. We are most happy with the Epson paper that we used. The quality looks and feels superior to the others. Even so, no matter which brand or type of paper used, the images and words dried instantly and never smudged.

The one feature that surprised me is the Stylus NX400 All-In-One’s unique photo correction with advanced face detection capability. This is such a great tool! This printer will actually adjust your image to correct for dark or washed out photos. It can also distinguish between people and scenery and will enhance skin tones and make the scenery pop. There is also a red-eye correction feature. For people who want fast results yet desire a great image without the use of a photo-editing program on the computer, this printer is superb!

Another aspect of the Epson Stylus NX400 All-In-One that we appreciate is the fast text, copy and photo speeds. It prints up to 34 pages per minute for black and color text. It will print a 4”x6” border free photo in as fast as 26 seconds, and it copies up to 30 copies for minute in both black and color. That is impressive!

We all love the large 2.5-inch tilt LCD that the Epson Stylus NX400 All-In-One has for selecting, copying and printing photos without a computer. The boys just pop their memory card into the printer, choose the photo they want to print, and the photo prints in a little as 26 seconds! This is a terrific feature for anyone in our family, but especially the kids- they like knowing that they don’t need their dad or I to help them use the printer.

In addition to the photos we tested, we also printed book reports, charts, greeting cards (using the included ArcSoft Print Creations software), lyrics and directions. Each time, we were pleased with the excellent quality of the product and the speed at which it printed.

Scanning is simple with the Epson Stylus NX400 All-In-One. I tested this feature by scanning a page in a magazine. I simply placed the page I wanted to scan face-down in the lower-right hand corner of the scanning bed, closed the cover, and then, clicked on the EPSON Scan icon on my desktop. With the Mode in FULL AUTO, all I had to do was click the Scan button. The image went right to my Pictures file. You can see my result here. The sweetie with the big blue eyes is my niece Emma, by the way.) The only change I made to this image was to decrease the file size. Look at the amazing clarity of color!

There are so many more wonderful things I could say about the Epson Stylus NX400 All-In-One, and doing so would make this review pages long, so I will give you our bottom line. For an extremely affordable price of $99.99, you could own the Epson Stylus NX400 All-In-One. You will be amazed by the quality of this printer, and will find it to be the perfect solution for your busy family’s printing, scanning, and copying needs.

Amazing giveaway!
I would LOVE the Epson Stylus NX400 to use in my newfound love of papercrafting. I could print up all kinds of ephemera and photographs without losing quality (I won't mention my current brand of printer, but the quality is not good).
My older 3-in-1 printer lost its printing ability, so now it is just an oversized scanner beside the newer but cheap printer. It is not an efficient setup.
Epson rocks for offering up such a cool machine for a giveaway!

Oh exciting!! My printer that I've got right now is about oh...8-9 years old, so I could definitely put the Epson Stylus NX400 to good use!! The printer I've got is an Epson and what a great machine it's been. I'm a graphic designer, so I'd use this for the various projects I create.

Weird: I just sent an instant-message to my brother, asking him if he knew anyone in the family with a photo printer. I have several old family photos I'd like to share. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have my own printing equipment? It would be nice to have a dependable printer for everyday jobs, too--Ebay sales packing slips and shipping labels; printing grocery coupons; handouts for classes I teach.

Generous giveaway. Thank you and Epson!

I have an ancient Brother printer; it makes this horrid chewing noise every time it feeds a piece of paper and it has no capabilities for printing photos. I currently have to have my digital pictures printed at the drugstore which is expensive and inconvenient. I'd love to not only print my own pictures, but use the scanning feature to scan some of my old family photos onto my computer to print and share with the rest of the family.

I need this printer b/c I am a college student and though I have a computer, I couldn't afford to purchase the printer that went with it. So usually I'll type up my papers/reports at home and try to print them out either at school (this is tremendously difficult as there isn't much paper to go around or a print not in use at the time) or at work (where I really shouldn't be using their paper or toner, or printing personal items where someone might notice)
I could really use a printer of my very own for my home.
then I could even print out some of the zillion digital pics I've had for ages that need to go into scrapbooks!
thanks for doing this giveaway

This is a FABULOUS giveaway! Good job getting Epson to work with you! I would love this printer because, firstly, I love Epson printers, but secondly, I currently have a seperate printer and scanner and have to spend forever scanning pages into my computer, going on the computer and printing them. An all-in-all printer would save me sooo much time! I would be using it to print pictures of my little guy for his scrap book, he's a year old and I only have a few pictures actually printed and I'd love an easy-to-use printer to print his pics.
Thanks!

I need this because I have three kids and a crazy life. I finally decided last night that I am going to start scanning the kid's artwork that they bring home and save it electronically and make scrapbooks out of them instead of keeping them in boxes all over the house. This would be so helpful for me. Less clutter. I am also going to do this with all those loose recipes I have floating around too. I will make a mini recipe book with all my favorite recipes in one place.

I would love this printer! It sounds so awesome and would be a great improvement from the one we have. My 2 year old son thought it would be fun to stick grapes it so now it doesn't pick up the paper to print on unless you sit there and load one paper at a time. So a new one would be awesome! Especially one as cool as the Epson Stylus NX400. I am amazed at how affordable it is. nicole_marsh22athotmail.com

Seeing that my current printer is an Epson 1280...I am in somewhat desperate need of a new one. (The 1280 is fantastic, don't get me wrong, but this was BEFORE individual ink cartridges, and the big ones for this are getting hard to find!)
I would love the NX400 because our bare white walls are in desperate need of some adorable kid photos. Plus I just found a great project where they use glass bottles as picture frames-I am dying to try it!

I think this would be amazing to print out my pages, so crisp and fresh. Besides that, my HP is slowly dying and I know hubs loves Epson so he'd be thrilled if I won this.

Thanks, Kiy

awesome giveaway for a much needed item thanks

I would love to win :)) The first thing I would do, is work on making my own personal "Thank You" cards. I am now making them by hand and it takes up a lot of time - if I had a really nice printer, I could make prints of my handmades. The printer I have now doen't do a very nice job of it.

I would LOVE this Epson Stylus All-In-One printer! I would use this to produce quality and affordable cards and notes from my artwork. It would allow me to expand my portfolio of offerings professionally, and also to archive and produce artwork personally. Oh, please let it be me! My all-in-one (not so great a quality) died recently and I can't afford to replace it yet.

Thanks so much for the chance!

If I won this printer I would give it to my son. He's trying to get into a graduate program, working 2 jobs, paying off student loans, and still takes time to bake fresh bread for he & his roommates. I know he would put it to good use in his studies, and his photography.

I need this printer because I don't have one - not even an old crummy one. if I won, I would use this for work purposes, and also for printing out greetings cards and postcards I design and send. And, of course, for photos.

i desperately need this printer because my current one is on its way out -- it makes a bad burning smell when printing. i'd LOVE to use this to print out photos of my baby so I can frame them and put them up around the house -- so far all our baby photos are just sitting on the computer! i'd also really like to use it to scan all of our old family photos as a way of preserving them and creating a genealogy project!
